I need to have Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and PremierPro on my laptop. I am not an expert and can't decide whether it would be wise for me to buy the Adobe Creative Cloud. With the MacBook Air you can run iPhoto ’11, Photoshop CS5, Lightroom 3, or Aperture 3 anywhere. But how does it hold up in the field? Over the course of six weeks I traveled by plane, cab, bus. I have a mid-2011 MacBook Air (with 4GB) running CS5 and it's fine. Granted, I only use it for web layout. I agree with others that you want 8GB RAM and I also think you want the next size hard drive (256GB) even if it's 'only' for Photoshop. The Retina is an amazing machine, but you're looking at 8 oz more weight, not 2.

How large are those programs? What is their load on the CPU and GPU? How full is the

capacity of the storage drive now? Before you add stuff, these are potential issues.

Could be you may put too much at stake; I suggest you research possible use of these

additional applications on an external drive, where they won't load internal hard drive?

I'd suggest you a) check out the technical specifications on both Machines and then also b) check out benchmark testing on both.

As a general observation, a fast i7 processor is best with that kind of app as well as lots of RAM (the new OS versions all require far more RAM and so does Adobe), so 16 GB would be a minimum.

And, a laptop is designed for portability, not necessarily processing power (unless it's a top model Macbook Pro).
